Zao Town in Miyagi Prefecture and Hitachiomiya City in Ibaraki Prefecture are the host towns where Team Palau conducted their pre-training camps. Due to preventive measures of COVID-19, the athletes could not visit the host towns upon their recent arrival to participate in the Olympic Games. However, the people of Hitachiomiya have sent Team Palau a message, which can be viewed from the following link.

1996年7月25日、クニオ・ナカムラ元大統領が三重県を訪れ、パラオと三重県は友好提携を締結しました。来週日曜日の25日にパラオと三重県は友好提携締結から25周年を迎えます。
パラオと三重県の関係は日本統治時代まで遡ります。当時、三重県からパラオへ移住した人が多数おり、三重県伊勢市で船大工をしていたクニオ・ナカムラ元大統領の父もその一人でした。パラオがアメリカ合衆国から1994年10月1日に独立し、1996年に三重県との友好提携を締結したことでパラオと三重県の関係はさらに発展し、訪問団の派遣・受け入れや技術研修、学生同士・青少年同士の交流など、多岐にわたった交流が現在も続いています。
クニオ・ナカムラ元大統領は当時、友好の証としてパラオの伝統的なカヌーを三重県に寄贈しました。本年、２５周年を迎えることから三重県はこのカヌーの修繕するためにクラウドファンディングを通して寄附金を募集しています。募った寄附金で、カヌーの安全な保管と移動に使う台車も制作されます。カヌーと台車は三重県立水産高校の生徒が活用します。三重県立水産高校は1997年よりパラオ高校と姉妹校提携を結んでいます。
2021年7月25日にパラオと三重県の25年にわたる友情を共に祝いましょう！

Interested in designing a logo for a summit?
The 9th Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting will be held in Mie Prefecture next year, where heads of states from across the Pacific will meet to discuss major issues lying in the Pacific region. The winning logo will be used for various occasions, including promotion. Feel free to create a logo symbolizing the Pacific Island Countries.

12月10日（木）、中西外務大臣政務官が飯倉公館にて開催した昼食会にマツタロウ大使が出席しました。
マツタロウ大使は、ミクロネシア連邦、フィジー共和国、マーシャル諸島共和国、サモア独立国、並びにトンガ王国の各国駐日大使と共に中西政務官と情報交換を行いました。

10月14日未明、クニオ・ナカムラ元大統領が永眠されました。
ナカムラ元大統領は1993年-2001年に掛けてパラオ共和国大統領としてご活躍された他、多様の公職に就かれておりました。
ここに心から哀悼の意を表すとともに謹んでお知らせ申し上げます。
弔問記帳につきましては後日お知らせいたします。
Former President of the Republic of Palau, Mr. Kuniwo Nakamura, passed away early morning on October 14, 2020.
Former President Nakamura was on active duty in public services as the President of the Republic of Palau from 1993-2001.
Rest in peace President Nakamura.
A notice regarding the book of condolences will be announced at a later time.
